Veeam Backup & Replication v10 sneak peek: Data Integration API

Veeam Backup & Replication v10 sneak peek: Data Integration API

At VeeamON 2019, I was privileged to present on the main stage and do actual live demo’s. One of these was around an upcoming feature for Veeam Backup & Replication v10 called “Data Integration API”. This is a great new feature that will make 3rd party integration into your backups even easier.

This feature will allow you to use your backup data for data mining, data analytics, AI,… The list of possibilities keeps growing and growing as I think about ideas.

Disclaimer: Everything written below is based on a technical preview and may change before v10 goes GA.

In the demo, I leverage PowerShell to search through my backup files for any virtual disks and afterward parse them via the API and present them to a 3rd party solution.

Once you start presenting the disks, the data will become available via the known VeeamFLR folder but there is more! The disks themselves are also available via the Windows Disk Manager and this allows Veeam Backup & Replication to even present them via an iSCSI target. You can even configure it with additional security (only allow access from certain IP’s for example).

What is really great about this feature is how fast this all happens. The demo video is recorded in a lab and it takes about 2 minutes to mount all the disks out of my VM’s.

Yes, Veeam Backup & Replication v10 will be one epic release. Once v10 will go GA, I will share the script which can be used as an example.
