VMware releases important CBT fix

VMware releases important CBT fix

Update 19/12: ESXi 6.5 patch has been released.

At Veeam, we have seen quite a few issues with CBT and VMware over the past. Most of these usually got fixed fast but there is one that I would like to highlight as it may have an impact on your infrastructure.

VMware listed information about this bug in their KB71155. In short, it states CBT does not support VM snapshot revert operation at all. This can have an impact since at Veeam we leverage VMware snapshots to make the backups.

VMware released a patch that contains a fix for ESXi 6.0 and 6.7 for the issue above. ESXi 6.5 patch has not been released yet.

You can get the patches via:

More information on the subject can be found in the release notes listed under PR 2423301: After you revert a virtual machine to a snapshot, change block tracking (CBT) data might be corrupted.
