VMworld 2019 Europe: recap

VMworld 2019 Europe: recap

I had the luck of attending VMworld 2019 Europe last week and wow, what an edition!

According to VMware stats, this event had more than 14.000 attendees, 2.000(!!) more compared to 2018. This proves the strength of VMware in the market. 3 days full of content and amazing breakouts.

If you want to review the general sessions, they are now available:

VMware made it very clear, they are in the Kubernetes game for the long run. VMware announced a few things and while all of them have their reason, below are my favorite ones which I will be following in the upcoming year(s).

VMware Tanzu which was already announced during VMworld 2019 US, VMware Tanzu is a product that is oriented for those who want to build, run and manage applications on Kubernetes. I am sure this will adoption will grow at a rapid rate. VMware already posted a recap on what Tanzu is. Make sure to check the video below.

VMware Cloud on AWS got some love as well by implementing OS-assisted migration. This means that non-vSphere workloads (like KVM or Microsoft Hyper-V) can be migrated to VMware Cloud on AWS.

Microsoft partnership announced. Just like the partnership with AWS, VMware is now extending its hybrid-cloud service to the Azure platform. This allows them to deliver advanced cloud migration capabilities.

Where are my sessions?

VMworld as always has a lot of sessions. William Law made it possible for you to download these (both US and Europe). You can find the information on GitHub.

My top 5 of (non-Veeam related) sessions:

Veeam at VMworld

I had the luck to present with Michael Cade as well on “Enhancing Data Protection for vSphere with What’s Coming from Veeam“. You can stream it or get the PDF. The room was clearly packed. Thanks to those who attended.

Nikola Pejková did a vBrownbag session about the Veeam Vanguard program.

See you next year in Barcelona again. The event will take place from November 9-12.
